We had a heck of a winter storm for Texas last week. So there was not much to do but stay warm. I decided to give chicken raising another go. I am waiting for my chicks to arrive. This may be the last time I will try raising chickens because I have no luck. Between the floods, hurricane Harvey, and predators, these are enough trials to discourage any farmer. I am also going to continue my apprenticeship in bee keeping. Last year I started my apprenticeship toward the end of the season so I saw very little.

What am I up to?
I begin my bee keeping adventure in 2020, the year of the pandemic. Like others I felt stressed and I was slipping into a depressive state. Bee keeping came to me in an advertisement which stated Bee Keeping for Vets in a Wounded Warrior newsletter. The informational zoom meeting talked about the Hives for Heroes organization. After signing up for the program, I was assigned a mentor and my life began as a NewBee .
Bought a Tractor
I bought a Kubota L2501 to help me around the farm. I have cleared up the front 2 acres but have about a 30ft challenge. I have a pecan tree that was snapped during hurricane Harvey to clear up before I could move forward. I think that I have found my venture in Alpacas. I will begin to add media to these entries to show you what I have in mind for our farm.
Hello world!
Today is the first day of thehhfarm.blog blog. There is so much research I have done for a self-sustaining farm and I realize, I still know nothing. So here goes nothing about nothing about my farm. The thought of being self-sufficient should be everyone’s goal. This is my opinion. Without a start and documenting my exploits how could I know if it’s real. So, sit back and try to enjoy my banter.
